Sleepy survivors of Purdue’s competition on Saturday!
Hi team,
This time next week we’ll be in Columbus battling it out at Nationals!!! I hope you’re as excited as I am to show off all your hard work from this semester in front of the judges and your team-mates 🙂
Get ready for OSB! Your fabulous Away Comp Chair Natalie will be sending out an email full of info about the competition in the next few days, but before then here are a few items to note:
- Costume rules: The costuming rules for OSB are a little different than for other competitions, so if you are dancing Pre-Bronze, Bronze or Silver please read this extract from the rule book:
- There are no costumes allowed in Pre-Bronze, Bronze or Silver. No reflective material, sequins, rhinestones, etc. Fringe is fine. No jewelry with light reflective qualities, including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. No gloves or floats.
- Competition packing list: Check out our competition preparation list to help you pack for OSB! Most importantly, don’t forget your M-Card or you won’t be allowed to compete 🙁
- Team closet: If you don’t own all the costume items listed in the competition preparation list, don’t worry! The team closet contains many leotards, skirts and dresses you can borrow for OSB! Lots of people on the team have spare competition items so you can also try asking someone at newcomer lesson or posting in the team Facebook group if you’re looking for things to borrow.
- Attire: the dress code for the pro show on Friday and Saturday nights is formal wear (guys think a nice shirt and a suit jacket if you own one, girls think cocktail dresses)
- Hair/makeup help: Ladies, check out these video tutorials by team alumna Katherine if you need help with competition hair or makeup 🙂
- TBA dancing: If you’re a lead, you can win extra points for the team by dancing two extra events with a girl from another school who doesn’t have a partner (in addition to the eight events you’ll be dancing with your partner from Michigan). Lizzie will be coordinating TBA dancers at OSB, so please reach out to her (enabney@umich.edu) if you have any questions or are very strongly opposed to dancing TBA. Otherwise, you may be contacted during the competition with requests to TBA 🙂
- OSBingo! Back by popular demand this year, OSBingo is a fun game you can play with the people in your car while you’re driving to Columbus and during the competition! Find out how OSBingo works here. Questions about OSBingo? Contact your awesome Tech Chair Meagan (msindone)!
Every day PON, every time is PON at team karaoke!
- Practice space this week: We’ve got some extra practice space available this week which you can find listed in the schedule below and on the team Google calendar! On Monday and Wednesday, the IMSB practice space will mostly be for standard/smooth dances, and DTS will mostly be for Latin/rhythm. On Thursday, we’ll be running rounds for the whole team in CCRB 3275. Rounds are a practice competition where we run through all the dances in short heats, you don’t need to be attending OSB to come and join in!
- Lost standard shoes: A pair of men’s standard shoes were lost at the CCRB this week, so please check your dance bags to make sure you didn’t accidentally take someone else’s shoes! If you find these shoes please contact me (Lizzie) by replying to the WAG email so I can reunite these shoes with their owner – he needs them for OSB this weekend!
