Congratulations to everyone who competed at Purdue this weekend!!
Hi Team,
Happy OSB Week!!! Our National competition is finally here and I hope you’re as excited as I am to show off all your hard work from this semester in front of the judges and your team-mates 🙂
Get ready for OSB! Your fabulous Away Comp Chair Lauren sent out an email full of info about the competition earlier today so be sure to check your inbox for all the important info!! Here is a brief preview of all the awesome info you can find in Lauren’s email:
- Costume rules: The costuming rules for OSB are a little different than for other competitions, so if you are dancing Pre-Bronze, Bronze or Silver please read this extract from the rule book:
- There are no costumes allowed in Pre-Bronze, Bronze or Silver. No reflective material, sequins, rhinestones, etc. Fringe is fine. No jewelry with light reflective qualities, including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc. No gloves or floats.
- Helpful Guides: Newcomers, please read this helpful guide which was put together by Lauren! Inside you will find answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about the team and competitions! If you still have questions about OSB check out the OS-Bible. Can’t find an answer to your question in any of our guides? Feel free to reach out to the board (ballroom-exec@umich.edu)!
- Competition packing list: Check out our competition preparation list to help you pack for OSB! Most importantly, don’t forget your M-Card or you won’t be allowed to compete 🙁
- Team closet: If you don’t own all the costume items listed in the competition preparation list, don’t worry! The team closet contains many leotards, skirts and dresses you can borrow for OSB! Lots of people on the team have spare competition items so you can also try asking someone at newcomer lesson or posting in the team Facebook group if you’re looking for things to borrow.
- Attire: the dress code for the pro show on Friday and Saturday nights is formal wear (guys think a nice shirt and a suit jacket if you own one, girls think cocktail dresses)
- TBA dancing: If you’re a lead, you can win extra points for the team by dancing two extra events with a follow from another school who doesn’t have a partner (in addition to the eight events you’ll be dancing with your partner from Michigan). See the OSB email for more info on how to sign up to TBA lead!
- Rounds: This Thursday we will be having rounds in the CCRB during the normal newcomer lesson time! Rounds are a practice competition where we run through all the dances in short heats, you don’t need to be attending OSB to come and join in!
- SAPAC Training: If you missed SAPAC training last Tuesday be on the lookout for an email from our wonderful PR Chair Manasi on details for a make-up training opportunity :)
- Apparel: Apparel will be available for pick up at the CCRB on Thursday! Stay tuned for more information from Manasi about opportunities to pick up apparel this week!
