Hi Team,
Happy Sunday! Congrats to everyone who competed at OSU on Saturday! I am so proud of all of you. Steve and Susan taught today, and it was an excellent American rumba, American tango, and mambo lesson. If you were struggling to nail down the moves, do not worry! You can always visit DTS and get some help from an upper-level team member or go to our first guided practice of the year on Thursday!
Announcements for Everyone:
- Guided Practice: What is guided practice? It is a space for you to go and get help with your questions from some upper-level team members. It is less structured than a lesson but you are able to still practice and ask the questions you have and get more 1-1 feedback. Bring a partner or go solo!
- Practice Space Schedule: The spreadsheet for space availability can be found here. It includes availability for IMSB Multipurpose Rooms A and B as well as the Ballroom Club schedule. The schedule can only be done two weeks in advance due to IM policies, so check back regularly.
- Send Owen your gas/parking receipts from OSU: If you were a driver for OSU, please send Owen your gas and parking receipts in order to receive reimbursement from the team.
- Q/A’s at Practice and Lessons: Got questions about technique? Need clarification on a move? We have people who can tell you! The official list of Steve-and-Susan-approved question-answer-ers© has dropped and you can find it here (along with photos of the teachers, in case you haven’t met them already). Come find one of these people if you’re ever in doubt- while being respectful, if they’re practicing too!
- Comp Interest form: Thinking about competing this semester? Fill out this form so we can get an idea about how many folks will be going to each comp this year. This helps us make sure we have enough rooms and rides for everyone who wants to go!
- Partner Search: Trying to find a partner? We will have an in-person event on Monday, October 16th in 3427 Mason Hall, at 8 pm, to facilitate partner searching. We also have a partner search spreadsheet here, where you can put in your information and try to find a partner! Note: people on the sheet have to proactively reach out to those they’re interested in dancing with. Overall, we encourage you to try and find a partner, try dancing together at DTS, and maybe even make plans to go to a competition together!
- Rooms and Rides: If you’re interested in attending the Illini Dancesport Classic, Jacob (jharrels@umich.edu) sent an email outlining all the steps you need to take last week! Also, look out for an email from Jacob today with the information for the Purdue Ballroom Classic! If you’re confused or have questions don’t hesitate to reach out to the board, we’d love to help!
- Ballroom Buddies! Do you have questions about the team? Want someone to talk to and guide you through the ballroom world? Look no further! Ballroom buddies are here to help. Fill out this form https://forms.gle/pBAxm79Vr4WJjFa96 by Wednesday, October 11th, to get a ballroom buddy who will be your point of contact for things related to the team and the ballroom scene (but not dance technique questions unless your buddy is also cleared to teach!) Upper team members (B & C Teamers), please fill out the form in order to get some ballroom buddies you can help guide just as others did for you in the past.
- Extra merch sale: We have a limited amount of extra merch from prior semesters that we are offering for sale! If you’d like another chance to drip yourself out in UMBDT gear for the start of the semester, please check out this spreadsheet to see what we have available. Email our treasurer, Owen Hoffend (ohoffend@umich.edu), if you’d like to buy something or if you have any questions.
- Liability Waiver: We are now requiring all team members to sign this liability waiver. If you have any questions or concerns, email ballroomexec@umich.edu.
- MichComp Committee: We host an amazing competition during the Winter semester, but in order to organize it, we need the help of you all! If you’re interested in joining the committee, please sign up here!
