Hi Team,
Happy Sunday! There was no lesson yesterday because of fall break :( But there will be one on Thursday! I hope you are all resting, relaxing, and getting your work done (if that needs to happen). In addition to the normal WAG, please read all about your fav Pre-C members this semester below!
Announcements for Everyone:
- Practice Space Schedule: The spreadsheet for space availability can be found here. It includes availability for IMSB Multipurpose Rooms A and B as well as the Ballroom Club schedule. The schedule can only be done two weeks in advance due to IM policies, so check back regularly. If the schedule is out of date, you may need to call and confirm specifics but the general availability is the same.
- Comp Interest form: Thinking about competing this semester? Fill out this form so we can get an idea about how many folks will be going to each comp this year. This helps us make sure we have enough rooms and rides for everyone who wants to go!
- Partner Search: Trying to find a partner? We will have an in-person event Wednesday October 18th at 8:00pm in the League Underground, to facilitate partner searching. We also have a partner search spreadsheet here, where you can put in your information and try to find a partner! Note: people on the sheet have to proactively reach out to those they’re interested in dancing with. Overall, we encourage you to try and find a partner, try dancing together at DTS, and maybe even make plans to go to a competition together!
- Rooms and Rides: Rooms and Rides for Purdue were due on Saturday! If you want to go to a different comp look for an email today from Jacob (jharrels@umich.edu) about the Badger Ballroom Dancesport Classic on Nov. 11!
- Extra merch sale: We have a limited amount of extra merch from prior semesters that we are offering for sale! If you’d like another chance to drip yourself out in UMBDT gear for the start of the semester, please check out this spreadsheet to see what we have available. Email our treasurer, Owen Hoffend (ohoffend@umich.edu), if you’d like to buy something or if you have any questions.
- Liability Waiver: We are now requiring all team members to sign this liability waiver. If you have any questions or concerns, email ballroomexec@umich.edu.
- MichComp Committee: We host an amazing competition during the Winter semester, but in order to organize it, we need the help of you all! If you’re interested in joining the committee, please sign up here!
Meet the Pre-C
Freddy Quarshie and Abby Hess
This is Freddy’s third semester on the UMBDT. He is a junior studying Statistics. Freddy loves the samba and can sing the ABC’s backwards
This is Abby’s third semester on the team, and she is a senior studying Math, Math, and also Math. Her favorite dances are the Quickstep or Standard Vienesse Waltz. She once took her calculator to prom as her date <3
Jason Zeng and Madeleine Kim
Jason is a senior who has been on the team for just over a year. He is majoring in Physics & Computer Science. According to Jason, his favorite dance is Tango, and his fun fact is 165 wpm (whatever that means).
Madeleine is a junior in her first semester on the UMBDT. She is studying History of Art and Museum Studies. Her favorite dance is the Detroit Hustle and she loves to write in cursive.
Ethan Sanders and Elizabeth Whitmore
Ethan is a junior studying Computer Engineering. He has been on the team for three semesters. His favorite dance is the American Rumba.
Elizabeth is a junior in her third semester on the team. She is studying Biopsychology, Cognition, and Neuroscience (Pre-Med) and her favorite dance is the International Tango. A fun fact is she spent this past summer studying abroad in Sweden and Denmark.
Shimon Likhtman and Olga Aristova
Shimon is a grad student in his third semester on the UMBDT. He is studying Southeast Asian Studies and his favorite dance is the Latin cha-cha. Fun fact: he is a licensed U.S. Soccer referee!
Olga is also a grad student in her third semester on the team. She is doing a PhD in Economics. Her favorite dance is the jive. Olga’s fun fact is that outside of ballroom she likes to run half marathons in her (very) limited spare time.
Mike Reynolds and Marie
Mike is a sophomore in his second semester on the UMBDT. He is studying Mechanical Engineering. His favorite dance is the Latin Cha-Cha. In his free time, he likes to race sailboats.
Marie is a sophomore in their third semester on the team. They are studying Art and Design. Her favorite dance is the American Foxtrot. Marie knows way too many random facts about dinosaurs.
Jeremey Shere and Ala
Jeremey is a senior studying Computer Science. This is his second semester on the team. His favorite dance is the Cha Cha, and upon request, he will serenade you in song.
Ala has been on the team for two semesters, and she is a senior studying Biomedical Engineering. Her favorite dance is the “shower freestyle.” Fun fact: she cannot live without tomatoes.
Allen Gu and Lex Pacifico
Allen is in his second semester on the UMBDT. He is a junior studying Computer Science. His favorite style of dance is the International Rumba. He also is horribly addicted to Valorant.
Lex has been on the UMBDT for 2 semesters. She is a junior studying Mechanical Engineering. Her favorite style of dance is American Tango. A fun fact about Lex is that she once read 60 books in one summer.
