Hi Team,
Happy Sunday! Congrats to everyone who went to Purdue this weekend. I am so proud of you all for going and doing great. Today Jacob and I taught some American Foxtrot, American Cha-Cha, and Quickstep. If you need additional help, come to DTS this week. In addition to the normal WAG, please read all about your fav B team members this semester below!
Announcements for Everyone:
- Normal Merch Sale: Last week you received an email from me with a Google form detailing how to order merch. Please fill it out and pay the team by TONIGHT AT 11:59 PM! If you want a track jacket before OSB please order it now!
- Ohio Star Ball: Jacob sent out an email last weekend detailing how YOU can sign up and register. This is all due Saturday, November 4th at 11:59 pm
- Board Games Night! We will be having a team board game night on Wednesday, November 8th from 7-10 pm in 2325 Mason Hall! Come play some board games and socialize with your favorite people in the whole wide world before going to DTS!
- Halloween Party: We are having a super spooky Halloween Party on Friday, November 3rd at 9:30 pm! Come prepared in your best costumes!
- Liability Waiver: We are now requiring all team members to sign this liability waiver. THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS THE ONE FROM AUGUST! If you have any questions or concerns, email ballroomexec@umich.edu.
- Ballroom Black Tie Formal Event: We are planning a black tie ballroom dance party with the Ballroom Club. However, before we can make it happen we need to know if you would be interested in going. It will be December 10th from 6-9 pm. Tickets will likely be $15 for students but this is subject to change and will be purchased in advance. Please let us know if you are interested in coming! If we do not have enough interest we will likely not be doing it :'( so fill out the form!!
- MichComp Committee: We host an amazing competition during the Winter semester, but in order to organize it, we need the help of you all! If you’re interested in joining the committee, please sign up here! We’ll be having an initial meeting this Wednesday, November 1st from 8:30 to 9:30 on Zoom. If you’d like to attend, please fill out the form!
- Practice Space Schedule: The spreadsheet for space availability can be found here. It includes availability for IMSB Multipurpose Rooms A and B as well as the Ballroom Club schedule. The schedule can only be done two weeks in advance due to IM policies, so check back regularly. If the schedule is out of date, you may need to call and confirm specifics but the general availability is the same.
- Pre-OSB Rounds: We want to provide everyone plenty of opportunities to practice before OSB in November. We’ve booked the League Ballroom on 11/15 from 6:30-9:30 pm and we’ll be running rounds for those who want to practice in a larger ballroom space. There will also be regular rounds in the IMSB Multipurpose Room A on the 16th before we leave.
- Extra merch sale: We have a limited amount of extra merch from prior semesters that we are offering for sale! If you’d like another chance to drip yourself out in UMBDT gear for the start of the semester, please check out this spreadsheet to see what we have available. Email our treasurer, Owen Hoffend (ohoffend@umich.edu), if you’d like to buy something or if you have any questions.
Meet the B Team
Erika Barker and Jacob Harrelson
Jacob (he/him) is a senior studying Robotics, and this is his 5th semester on the team. He can solve a Rubik’s cube slower than Johny and his favorite dance is the Quickstep.
Erika (she/they) is a grad student in her 13th semester on the team. She is doing her Master’s in Social Work. They can solve a Rubik’s cube twice as fast as Johny and their favorite dance is split between the International Foxtrot and Rumba.
Andrea Vargas and Alan Zhang
Alan (he/him) is a Junior studying computer science, and this is his 3rd semester on the team. He doesn’t like eating vegetables without having a protein with them, and he loves dancing Latin.
Andrea (she/her) is a Junior studying Mechanical Engineering with a minor in German. This is her fifth semester on the team. She is the 3x winner of her family’s annual In-Theatre Movie Marathon and she loves Salsa dancing.
Owen Hoffend and Anushka Jain
Owen (he/him) is a PhD student studying Computer Science. This is his 5th semester on the team, although he did do ballroom during his undergrad. He once handed out lettuce to children on Halloween in New Zealand and he loves the Waltz.
Anushka (she/her) is a Law student in her first year, and this is her 5th semester on the team. She loves the jive.
Joshua Velten and Rachel Leonard
Josh (he/him) is a Junior studying Computer science and this is his 3rd semester on the team. Apparently, his apartment has a lot of spiders and he’s a fan of the international rumba.
Rachel (she/her) is a sophomore studying Actuarial Mathematics and this is also her 3rd semester on the team. Rachel would like to report that she wrote a song about Erika Barker and that she would love to share the lyrics. She also loves the samba and Int. Tango.
