Hi Team,
Welcome back to the 3rd edition of your 2024 WAG. We had two fantastic lessons this week where we covered 6(!) dances and had yet another rendition of tryouts yesterday. For those of you who tried out I’m still accepting submissions to complete my poem, and I’m upping the prize to not one, but TWO whole cookies. (See tryout email for more details). As a reminder for those of you who tried out, lessons will be starting this week. Pay attention to your emails for those results. For all my new friends and maybe interested friends, this will be the last WAG you receive unless you decide to join the team, in which case there will be many many more in your future.
Announcements for Everyone:
- Dues: Dues are $65 for the semester and can be paid via cash or Venmo (@UMBDT). They’ll get you our lessons twice a week, practice space 4 times a week, and access to all of our social events, which include our amazing parties :). If you’re on the fence, talk to someone on the team! They’d be more than happy to help!
- MichComp Committee: We host an amazing competition during the Winter semester, but in order to organize it, we need the help of you all! If you’re interested in joining the committee, please sign up here!
- Feedback Form: Do you have any questions, comments, or concerns about the team? We want to hear from you! Let us know by talking to a board member or by using the team’s anonymous feedback form on our website. Anything you report to us is 100% confidential.
- Practice Space Schedule: The spreadsheet for space availability can be found here. It includes availability for IMSB Multipurpose Rooms A and B as well as the Ballroom Club schedule. The schedule can only be done two weeks in advance due to IM policies, so check back regularly. If the schedule is out of date, you may need to call and confirm specifics but the general availability is the same.
- Competition Dates: For this semester we will have several super fun competitions to attend! Here are the dates: MSU Green and White Gala February 3rd, Northwestern Dancesport Classic February 10th, Arnold March 2nd-3rd, and Michcomp April 6th
- Dance Photos: If you have any dance/team related photos that you would like to see on the team instagram, upload a photo to this drive! By uploading a photo, you are consenting to it being posted on the team instagram.
- Arnold Dancesport Competition Interest Form: Our biggest competition of the semester will be on March 2nd and 3rd. This is the weekend before classes start at the end of spring break, so end your spring break plans early if you want to go. If you want to compete, we highly suggest that you go to this one and MichComp (our home competition)! More details about the Arnold and competing in general to come. Please fill out this Arnold Interest Form if you are even the littlest bit interested. It is not a commitment but rather a tool for us to use to see how many rooms and rides we will need.
- Graduating Folks: If you are graduating this year from any program (including graduate/undergraduate study), let us know for planning purposes.
- Sticker Design Competition: The team is looking for new sticker designs for our merch store! We’ll be hosting a fun little competition to select new sticker designs. If you’re interested in making a design, keep an eye out for our submission form in next week’s WAG. The submitted designs will be voted on by the team and the winning design will be added to the store for purchase. The designer of the winning sticker will get a free copy of their sticker and some extra super cool merch ;)

I’ve had such a fun time getting to meet and dance with all the new faces these last few weeks. For those of you who will not be joining us, I’m thankful you gave us a try and I really hope you learned something new. For those of you are joining us, welcome and I can’t wait to get to know you!
