Hey everyone!

This is an exciting week with the end of the Free Newcomer Lessons, Leads and Follows, and Tryouts coming up. For me at least, this is also the first week of the semester with actual homework. Buckle down and lock in y’all, here’s your WAG:

  • Dues If you haven’t already, you can pay your dues via venmo @UMBDT. Dues are $65 for the semester, and make sure to include your full name and uniqname and “Dues” in the subject line. If you have any other questions or wish to pay by cash or check, contact our treasurer, Owen, at ohoffend@umich.edu. They’ll be due at the end of the free newcomer lessons…
  • Free Newcomer Lessons – Our free lessons will again be held in the IMSB Multipurpose Room A on Sundays from 3-5pm and Thursdays from 9-11pm. The last free lesson will be September 18th, followed by…
  • Tryouts – Tryouts will be held from 3-5pm on September 21st in the Large Multipurpose Room in the IMSB (no lesson that Sunday, but newcomers are welcome to spectate!). We have the medium multipurpose room reserved from 1-2pm for warmup and practice. If you need to borrow clothes from the team closet, reach out to the board at ballroom-exec@umich.edu. The Tryout Agreement form, found in a separate email from me, is due tomorrow (9/14) at midnight.
  • New Practice Space – We have moved to the Sports Coliseum for practices. Practice will be held 9-11pm Monday through Thursday (Thursday practices are cancelled through 9/18 because of free lessons).
  • ShowcasesWe would like existing members to show our new members how awesome the team is! Fill out this form by TOMORROW, 9/15 to sign up. Newcomers, make sure you come to lesson this Thursday, 9/18 to see the showcases!
  • Student Arts Org Fair – We will be flyering at the Student Arts Org Fair on Friday, 9/26, from 2-4:30pm on the Diag. Stop by our table and say hi! And even flyer a bit with us if you’re interested in getting even more new members involved in the team.
  • Competition Interest Form – Please fill out the MBDT Fall 25 Competition Interest Form so we can get a rough estimate of competition attendance. 
  • IU Cream and Crimson Classic – Our first competition of the semester will be the Cream and Crimson Classic on September 27, 2025! Check out Emma’s email (emmazink@umich.edu) if you are interested in attending.
  • Carnegie Classic- The second competition of the year will be the Carnegie Classic on October 11th. Look at Emma’s email for more details.
  • Partner Search – If you are looking for a partner, look no further! We will be holding a partner search event on Tuesday, 9/23, 8:30-10pm in Mason Hall, Room 1436. Fill out your information in the partner search form right here and make sure you come to the event! You will have the opportunity to meet other unpartnered folks and get more acquainted with your teammates.
  • Corn Maze Social – SAVE THE DATE! We will be going to a corn maze on the evening of Friday, October 17th. More info to come.
  • Bridgerton Ball – If you can’t get enough of Emma and Alan’s lessons, they will be teaching some ballroom at the Bridgerton Ball in the League on Friday, 9/26 at 8pm. They’ll be showcasing some of their beautiful, graceful moves as well! There will be other Bridgerton themed activities too, so be sure to check it out! More info here.
  • Liability Waiver – Fill out this Liability Waiver before attending newcomer lessons at the IMSB or practices at the Sports Coliseum.
  • Google Calendar – we’ll be adding practices, competitions, social events, etc., to the team google calendar here.
  • Google Photos – To preserve and share our team’s memories, place any photos you take in our google photo albums!

6:00-9:00pm: Ballroom Club lesson in the Union
