1/7/26 Week at a Glance

Hey everyone!

Welcome back! I hope you all had an amazing winter break and a great first day of classes! I know I’m excited to be back dancing and I hope you all are too:

  • Newcomer Lessons –Thursdays 9-11pm and Sundays 3-5pm at the IM starting TOMORROW, Thursday, January 8th. The first few lessons will be free, so invite your friends! See our flyer attached below (pardon the quality, the website isn’t the best format for this). They’ll run through Thursday the 22nd, with a break for…
  • Tryouts – We will be holding tryouts on Sunday January 18th from 3-5pm. This is during the normal Newcomer Lesson time and will replace that Free Lesson. Please come cheer on your friends even if you’re not trying out; it’s open to everyone that’s paid dues for the semester. Stay tuned for the signup forms today.
  • Cantina Night – After tryouts we are letting loose at Cantina! More info to come through the Groupme :D
  • Help with recruitment! – We will be at Winterfest on Monday, January 12th, from 4-7pm at the Union. Come help us pass out flyers to recruit new members! You can also pick up flyers at practice to put up around campus on your own time if you really love me (Nelly <3). We will be handing out flyers on the diag throughout the week as well, depending on the weather, so look out for GroupMe messages in the F25 Members Chat.
  • Practice Space – Due to changes in Sports Coliseum availability, we will be practicing on the following schedule beginning this Friday 1/9:
    • M 9:30-11:30 (DTS*), T 9-11 (IMSB), Th 9:30-11:30 (DTS*), F 5-7 (Sports Coliseum)
    • * Dance Theater Studio is where we practiced for many years before they moved last semester. As a temporary measure while we are looking for new practice space for the coming year, we’ll practice at their new location a few times per week. As it’s off campus, we’ll have carpool signup sheets for every practice. Here is the signup sheet for the upcoming week. Please note that drivers must arrive and leave with the same passengers unless otherwise coordinated so that everyone has a safe ride to and from DTS.
  • Other Competitions – Check out this document for the dates of next semester’s competitions. We highly recommend that you attend the Arnold Dancesport Classic during the 2nd weekend of spring break (March 7-8)! If you enjoyed OSB, you’ll want to attend this comp!
  • SAPAC Training – If you need to makeup SAPAC training, check your inbox for a message from Taryn on how to do so. This must be completed by EOS on December 6th or else you will not be able to attend.
  • MichComp – We’ll be holding our own competition next semester on March 21st at Skyline High School, so save the date!
  • MichComp Committee – You should help us host our home comp next semester. Slides from meeting #1 found here, fill out THIS FORM to tell us what committee you want to be on, and fill out this NEW When2Meet to tell us when you’re available.
  • Other Practice Spaces – You can go to the IM Multipurpose Rooms outside our booked time, check the facility schedule here. The third floor of the Union also has a big, usually empty hallway to be in.
  • Partner Search – Check out the partner search spreadsheet if you are looking for a partner, and make sure your information is up to date.
  • F25 Approved Teachers: We recommend asking for help regarding dance moves and technique from the couples approved by Steve and Susan to teach the newcomer lessons. See the list here.
  • Liability Waiver – Fill out this Liability Waiver before attending newcomer lessons at the IMSB or practices at the Sports Coliseum.
  • Google Calendar – Check the team calendar here.
  • Costume Sales – Looking for new gear for tryouts, practice, or competitions? Try the Dance America Deal of the Week or Discount Dance.
  • Team Closet – The team closet is viewable to all in this doc. Reach out to a board member if you want to borrow something for tryouts! Also make sure to return anything you still have from last semester.
