General Rules:

  • Collegiate competitors may dance up to two adjacent levels in each style. For example, a competitor may choose to dance Bronze/Silver Smooth and Silver/Gold Latin, but cannot dance Bronze/Gold Smooth because these levels are not adjacent. This rule applies to each competitor individually (including TBA partners); no dancing Gold Latin with one partner and Bronze Latin with a different partner.
  • Our Collegiate Syllabus events are open to all collegiate competitors, i.e. they are not affected by the “two adjacent levels” rule.
  • Our four Open Amateur events are open to both non-collegiate and collegiate adult dancers! All adult amateur dancers are welcome to register, regardless of age, however they are open-syllabus events and are best suited for Novice-level dancers and above. 

Eligibility:

  • Competitors dancing in our Collegiate level events must be current students or have graduated within the last six months, and will be asked to present a valid student ID at check-in. There is an exception for our Collegiate Open Championship event, which is open to both non-collegiate and collegiate dancers.
  • Both partners must be eligible to compete in our Collegiate level events.
  • Again, our four Open Amateur events are open to both non-collegiate and collegiate dancers! They are open-syllabus events and are best suited for Novice-level dancers and above.
  • Newcomer dancers must have begun competing no earlier than August, 2024. This includes TBA partners. We will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis, but please be considerate. If you have never competed but have been dancing socially for two years, you are probably too advanced for Newcomer.
  • There are no gender restrictions on couples. Anyone may lead or follow whatever dances they wish, so long as they meet our leveling and eligibility requirements.

Syllabus/Costumes:

  • Competitors must follow the NDCA syllabus for all styles. Closed Syllabus is enforced in Newcomer through Gold levels. 
  • Novice, Pre-Champ, and Champ competitors are not restricted to a syllabus, but lifts will not be permitted. 
  • Costumes (floats, rhinestones, etc.) are permitted at the Silver level and above.
  • Heel protectors are mandatory for all high-heeled shoes
