3/16/20 Week at a Glance

Hi team,

Thank you for your patience as we’ve been working through the challenges the past week has thrown at us. Although many things in the coming weeks are uncertain, I know that we will work through them together as a community and tackle every challenge that comes our way! Thanks to everyone who has reached out with offers of help and support to board members, they are hugely appreciated! The most important thing to do this week is to take care of your health and well-being, but if you have some energy to spare for dance then read on for some team updates!

  • First up, let’s start with some things everyone can do to keep dance in our lives over the next few months, no matter where you are in the world!
    • Reach out to someone on the team: No matter where you are, this is so easy to do! Arrange a Skype/Facetime date with your partner, a graduating senior or a friend on the team you haven’t spoken to in a while. Or send a message to a team member who has helped or inspired you this year to say thanks!
    • Watch Arnold videos: this is a great way to learn how to improve your dancing, and re-live the fun we had at Arnold last weekend! Meagan will continue to upload videos here and Jonny took some extra videos which you can find here.
    • More videos! If you didn’t go to Arnold, watch videos of the last comp you attended/showcases from previous semesters/professional dancers etc. You can even try to find videos of A-team dancing newcomer or bronze if you look back far enough in the team YouTube channel!
    • Solo practice: S&S are always telling us to spend more time drilling basic steps on our own, now is a great chance!
    • Work on your cardio and flexibility: more things which S&S always say need improvement! Also, don’t forget those calf raises to get strong ankles :)
    • Ask an upper level team member if they’d be able to watch a video of your dancing and offer suggestions! (However, make sure you’re respectful when you ask, they are busy people)
    • Make a dance meme and post it in the team meme group!
    • Be creative! Come up with some ideas for other fun projects involving dance, and make them happen! You can recruit others to help with your project on the team Facebook page, or submit it to the board here.

Congratulations to our International style team for winning the Arnold team match (including Madeline who missed the photo), and our American style team for placing second!

  • Report whether you are staying in town or leaving Ann Arbor hereThis is very important info for us so we can plan future events (such as team lessons going forward and board elections for next year). If your plans have changed, just fill out the form again!
  • Practice space this week: The owners of DTS made the decision today to close DTS all this week, so there will be no team practice there this week. The IMSB and NCRB are also closed but the CCRB is open for limited hours if you want to practice there in the mirror room or racketball courts (if you call in the morning they will tell you when the mirror room is free that day!). We are working to find more options for practice space this week, so keep an eye on the team Facebook group for updates! If you have suggestions for creative places to practice, submit them here.
  • Apparel: If you ordered apparel this semester, there are three options for collection (if you have questions, contact Grace – gkraimer):
    1) collect from Grace this week, or earlier if you are leaving town.
    2) collect next semester
    3) we can post it to you if you’re willing to pay for shipping
  • Team closet: Please arrange to return items you’ve borrowed from the team closet as soon as possible, and definitely before you leave town. Contact Grace (gkraimer) to arrange this.
  • MichComp: Due to the closure of Ann Arbor Public Schools, MichComp is sadly cancelled this year. Here’s a message from Corey: “I’d like to thank all team members who helped me in planning MichComp this year, especially those on MichComp committee and the board. We all put a lot of work into it and I know the whole team is crushed we won’t be able to host MichComp this year. Again thank you to all team members who contributed to our home competition.”

Good luck with those online classes!
